The Abergavenny Steam,Veteran & Vintage Rally May 2011.

This time of year the weather is  cold, damp and dark  and the Summer Vintage  season seems a distant memory. So what better way is there  to look forward to  next Spring than  to show some scenes from the Abergavenny Steam, Veteran & Vintage Rally. I came across this rally quite by accident in May of 2011 after spending a week in Pembrokeshire, the Rally is held  every year in Bailey Park witch is situated in the centre of this very nice Market Town. Its an excellent gathering of Traction Engines,Vintage Bikes,Cars and loads of interesting Jumble etc, i  can thoroughly recommend it for next year.

Signs of Coventry's Industrial Heritage. The Quinton Cycle Company.

Saturday saw us visiting the rather good Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry, the purpose of the visit was to see the Turner Prize nominated artist George Shaw exhibition. And I cannot recomend this ehibition enough to any one who likes painting. Afterwards armed with my Camera I went in search of signs and clues to Coventry's Industrial Heritage.  http://www.theherbert.org/

Signs of Coventry's Industrial Heritage. The James Starley Memorial.

This is the James Starley memorial which stands in Warwick Green ( Warwick Row ) Coventry. Starley has been described as the ' Father of the Cycle Industry ' and an inscription on the memorial describes him as the 'Inventor of the Bicycle1870'
He is also credited as the inventor of the chain-drive(open) differential.

A bronze replica of a chain drive differential can clearly be seen adorning the  Starley Memorial.

Country Bygones in Warwick town centre Market.

Most Saturday mornings will find a market in Warwick's town centre square. And by the side of the Museum you will find this interesting stall selling every thing from old church chairs to reclaimed door furniture, old fireplaces and of course plenty of old tools and spanners,I myself bought a couple of old G clamps that still have plenty of life in them.
Although there is plenty of Knobs,Knockers, and handles there is always a catch!

Plenty of keyhole escutchions to finish off that door on your Mansion.

Through the keyhole in Brass,Copper, steel and Bakelite.

Always plenty of second hand tools.

Always plenty of second hand tools, is that an adjustable wrench with a hammer or an adjustable wrench thats been hamered?

The Motor Repair Manual.

These days when we are working on our " Modern " vehicles we may refere to a Manual with photographs,But in the old days before the extensive use of photography mechanics and enthusists would use a Motor Repair Manual similar to this one. Inside its covers are  wonderfull line ilustrations, showing how to Adjust the tappets or what type of tools to keep in your shed or workshop. I am not sure what date this book is from, post war I think? But I still enjoy looking at the drawings from time to time just to remind me of the diference between a Crown wheel and a Bifurcated Rivet.

The VMCC Warwickshire Sections 2011 Autumn Run

Unfortunately  I am a little late in updating the vintageshed, What with work and my eldest daughters Wedding  taking up a lot of my free time lately, However better late than never, so  here are a few photos taken on the Warwickshire Sections Autumn Run. Nice Autumn weather, a wonderful route along some very pretty ( if a little bumpy ) country lanes and a wonderfull mixed bag of vintage and classic machines.

Some of these classic Japanese machines look absolutely wonderful alongside the traditional Vintage and Classic machines on our Autumn run. And this Yamaha 350 is no exception.
