Saturday saw us visiting the rather good Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry, the purpose of the visit was to see the Turner Prize nominated artist George Shaw exhibition. And I cannot recomend this ehibition enough to any one who likes painting. Afterwards armed with my Camera I went in search of signs and clues to Coventry's Industrial Heritage. http://www.theherbert.org/
If it smells of oil or Petrol ...its in the shed.

Signs of Coventry's Industrial Heritage. The James Starley Memorial.
This is the James Starley memorial which stands in Warwick Green ( Warwick Row ) Coventry. Starley has been described as the ' Father of the Cycle Industry ' and an inscription on the memorial describes him as the 'Inventor of the Bicycle1870'
He is also credited as the inventor of the chain-drive(open) differential.

Country Bygones in Warwick town centre Market.
Most Saturday mornings will find a market in Warwick's town centre square. And by the side of the Museum you will find this interesting stall selling every thing from old church chairs to reclaimed door furniture, old fireplaces and of course plenty of old tools and spanners,I myself bought a couple of old G clamps that still have plenty of life in them.
Always plenty of second hand tools.
Always plenty of second hand tools, is that an adjustable wrench with a hammer or an adjustable wrench thats been hamered?

The Motor Repair Manual.
These days when we are working on our " Modern " vehicles we may refere to a Manual with photographs,But in the old days before the extensive use of photography mechanics and enthusists would use a Motor Repair Manual similar to this one. Inside its covers are wonderfull line ilustrations, showing how to Adjust the tappets or what type of tools to keep in your shed or workshop. I am not sure what date this book is from, post war I think? But I still enjoy looking at the drawings from time to time just to remind me of the diference between a Crown wheel and a Bifurcated Rivet.
The Motor Repair Manual.
Love the double Spanner, must keep my eyes open at Auto jumbles for an example .....not that I need one!
