War time on the Severn Valley Railway
It's July 1942 and the Severn Valley branch of the Great Western Railway is fully committed carrying troops and war materials to serve the nation. The railway is playing an important role as a diversionary route to avoid the industrial West Midlands. This was the opening statement in the booklet for the Severn Valley Railways 1940s weekends June 23rd-24th & June 30th - July 1st. Kidderminster Station was particular impressive with a replica house, air raid shelter,ARP post and even their own dig for Victory allotment. Although this was my first visit to the 1940s weekend I don't think it will be my last....maybe next year I could be a Spiv or an ARP Warden and shout put that light out!
